After a sell-out show in my hometown of Westport, Co Mayo, Ireland, I am absolutely delighted to continue my collaboration with Mayo Concert Orchestra and Conductor Kathy Fahey at the wonderful Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, Co Mayo, Ireland on Friday, 16 February, 2024 at 8PM.
The Linenhall Arts Centre is a multi-purpose, multi-disciplinary arts venue within a historic building which is home to a beautifully intimate 144 seat theatre which lends itself perfectly for this performance of a selection of some of my work over the last 30 years; all original songs and lyrics and I'm very much looking forward to sharing my personal stories of how some of them came about.
As many of you know, I lived and travelled abroad for quite a few years singing, playing guitar, writing and performing music; eight of those years were spent based in Oviedo, Asturias, in the north west of Spain which infused my traditional Irish and folk roots with an array of Celtic music from a variety of Celtic regions of the world, along with Latin themes.
Fans tell me my music feels uplifting, thoughtful, emotional, soulful, soothing and hopeful and I love it when people share with me how they connect with a particular song or my music in general. I write and sing about relationships, loss and grief, overcoming life's many challenges, family dynamics, mental health, people, beauty and of course love.
Collaborating with Conductor and Musical Director Kathy Fahey and Mayo Concert Orchestra continues to be an incredible experience for me. I had never worked with an orchestra before so it was incredibly exciting and also a little daunting. Kathy and all the musicians are superb musicians, fantastic to work with and we've really found our feet now.
To have and hear my music orchestrated is an absolute dream and joy because it brings so many additional layers and dimensions to this work, offering it a richness and depth which, I feel, is exquisitely unique and special so we're all looking really looking forward to sharing this with our audience at the Linenhall Arts Centre.
